Thailand DTV Visa from Ho Chi Minh City — What the Consulate Actually Requires
Since 31 August 2026 you can only apply for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) in your country of nationality or legal residence — which quietly ended the old "visa run to Vietnam" route for everyone else. If you are a Vietnamese national or legal resident, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City is your mission, and it runs the longest bank test in this series.
Ho Chi Minh City — verified figures
Fee: US$340, in cash, in US dollars only. Not card, not dong, not baht — bring the exact currency. Non-refundable.
Bank test — the longest anywhere: a financial statement covering the past 6 months showing a minimum balance of 500,000 THB. That is double the statement history Washington asks for.
Police certificate: a Vietnamese Criminal Record Certificate No. 2, or a certificate from your country of nationality.
Residence: only a Vietnamese Temporary Residence Card or Permanent Residence Card is accepted. The consulate refuses temporary-residence declarations outright — since 31 August 2026 this mission is, in practice, for Vietnamese nationals and legal residents only.
Jurisdiction: this consulate covers southern Vietnam only (northern applicants belong to the embassy in Hanoi), and it does not accept walk-ins.
Verified on 2026-10-22 from the consulate's published checklist details and consulate correspondence as published in applicant reports. Confirm the current position via the Thai e-Visa portal (thaievisa.go.th) before you file — rules change.
The two mistakes Ho Chi Minh City applicants make most
Filing a three-month file at a six-month mission. Most English-language DTV guides describe a 3-month statement rule, because that is what Washington and Bern ask. This consulate asks for 6 months — a file prepared from a generic guide arrives two seasons short.
Bringing a residence declaration instead of a residence card. A temporary-residence declaration (the paper many foreigners in Vietnam actually hold) is refused in terms here. Without a Temporary or Permanent Residence Card — or Vietnamese nationality — this mission cannot take your application at all, whatever your bank balance says.
